Steve Jackson Memorial - 3rd June 2022
A few of you may have had the pleasure of knowing Steven Jackson. Steve or 'Jacko' to his mates was one of my closest friends whose life was cruelly taken in October 2020 after a short but brave battle with an aggressive cancer. A group of us local photographers Steve Jackson - Nigel Cockburn - James Rose - Ross Byers - Pauline McKenna and myself - always seemed to be at the same place, same time and somehow ended up with the title of the HMPS - The Healey Mills Photographic Society (nothing to do with the Her Majesty's Prison Service LOL) as we all lived within a few miles of the one grand now all but a memory depot in Wakefield, so we had a headboard made for a bit of fun and it ended up on the front of quite a few railtours and locos at galas etc up and down the country.
I came up with the idea of running a 'memorial train' for want of a better expression within days of his passing but at least two attempts of trying were curtailed by the Covid Pandemic so it was today it finally happened.
I wish to publicly acknowledge the help and support of the Wensleydale Railway, the RO for the day and the train crew Paul "Alf" Garnett and Alex Lomax for all their help and support on the day. Several people were unable to attend today due to holidays etc but I am sure at some of them were with us in spirit on the day. Us on the train raised a bottle to Steve's Memory just after Midday on the return from Leyburn of the first trip
RIP 'Jacko' x
