Castle Class GWR "Kettle" 5043 thunders past Diggle with a 1Z37 Tysley to Blackburn "The Red Rose" charter on April 16th 2010. Despite me not being a "kettle man" and the GWR being my least liked of them all, I must admit I was very impressed with this locos performance and it positively flew past Diggle sounding awesome!

Castle Class GWR "Kettle" 5043 thunders past Diggle with a 1Z37 Tysley to Blackburn "The Red Rose" charter on April 16th 2010.   • When I first saw the post I thought it was a late April Fool joke - A Deltic - hired by a TOC - to work freight for a month!!?? But its true and heres the proof. Aplogies for the dodgy cinematography (still learning video/lack of autofocus on non prime lenses on the DSLR - a tough learning curve, especially as I had my four year old with me and needed eyes in the back of my head!!)<br /> <br /> 55022 is seen passing through Dewsbury around 20 mins early with an 0Z55 1300 Castleton to Tyne Dock light engine move in preparation for the new flow on April 10th 2010.

  • 5043 was equally impressive when viwed on the other side of the pennines. Here the 1Z37 Tysley to Blackburn is seen working hard at Hall Royd Junction with the start of the climb upto Copy Pit.
  • 66954 seen on the approach to Dewsbury with a 4M22 Leeds FLT to Crewe Intermodal service on April 30th 2011. In my 35+years as a railway enthusuiast this is the first freightliner container service I have managed to photograph on this route - maybe even the first I have seen........
